Susie Davis, SooBoo Designs
One day during my senior year at University of Arizona, I was elected to
make a quick card with fat outlined letters spelling out, “Happy Birthday” for my college illustration professor. He was so delighted with the lettering on his card that he deemed this to be my calling. After almost 30 years, I now believe he was right!
I have been making cards for as long as I can remember. My Dad owned several classy card and gift shops in downtown Chicago. There, I was able to sell them to Dad, who in turn, put them on the racks to sell to the public. They would sell faster than I could make them! As the years went on, I took on jobs in the art field, enabling me to keep abreast of new trends. Recently, I was fortunate enough to be able to learn the art of basic computer graphics and decided now was my opportunity to incorporate what I call “name art” with my new found computer skills. It’s a wonderful new world for me, so I welcome you to share my passion for personalized paper products and hand-drawn cards.
SooBoo Designs was born out of a lot of coaxing from good friends. We all believed my designs were so different from anything custom made out there, that there would be a nice market for these unique designs. Most every idea is hand drawn then painted with watercolor, giving a mottled look to the lettering. There are no two alike! From there, with the help of the fabulous software, Adobe Creative Suite CS2, I am able to set up the designs into various product forms. SooBoo’s best sellers are: Personalized Note Cards, Notepads, Bag Tags, Invitations and Bookmarks.
Somewhere along the way, I found a link to an amazing charity called SuperSibs!, This unique charity‘s purpose is to help out siblings of kid’s who have cancer. These are the forgotten kids in a terrible chapter in their family’s lives. When parents have a child who has been diagnosed and being treated for their disease, often times these parents of these stricken families simply can’t make the time to be with the their healthy children the way they would like. SuperSibs! raises money for pediatric oncologists to help change the culture of pediatric oncology to ensure that sibling support is integrated into all aspects of care. I’ve always been for the underdog, and, although, I don’t have a child with cancer, but have had many relatives die from it, I felt this was a natural fit for me to support SuperSibs! in the one way I know will be worthwhile. For every order SooBoo Designs receives, 5% will go to SuperSibs! to help those forgotten brothers and sisters understand better what is happening to their sibling and parents.
And some customers may feel that they feel left out, too…but in the shopping process of many types of stores. My wish, goal, and mission is to promptly create, for my customers, unique and playful artwork made into personalized paper products Customer service seems to be lacking everywhere these days, but I have always believed that is absolutely the wrong approach. I strive to give my customers the attention they deserve throughout the ordering process. It’s important for the customer to enjoy their experience at SooBoo Designs!
You may be wondering from where came the SooBoo name? My precious Aunt, we called, Chipper, lovingly gave me that nickname when I was a child. I liked it enough to name my company after it! It’s my way of honoring her life, her love for me and all things artistic.
A native of the Chicago suburbs, I have relocated to a small, relaxing rural area just south of Raleigh, North Carolina. I share my life with my ever-inspiring husband, Jeff, fantastically optimistic son, Dean, a real hoot of a step-son, Tanner, and Tootsie Bella, our fuzzy and entertaining Peek-a-Poo.
Enjoy SooBoo Designs…
