Are You Breathing For Health?

Most of us breathe about 20,000 breaths a day without any conscious thought. But many cultures place great importance on breathing: Hawaiian Kahunas consider it to be life force, Native Americans believe spirit enters the body with the first breath, most Indo-European languages use words for spirit and breath are the same.

Breath work is being recognized as a way to impact health and an increasing number of health practitioners are now teaching their patients breathing techniques. Not only do your heart and lungs depend on the exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen, but also there is a strong connection between emotions and breathing.

The next time you are really angry or upset, take note of your breathing. Are you taking slow deep, abdominal breaths? No, you are taking rapid, shallow, irregular breaths. You cannot be in an emotional state of calm when you breathe this way. (more…)

Summertime is Fresh Air time!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

It has been my experience that there is a universal support system that is created around the Heart Centered Entrepreneur. When a Heart Centered Business owner gives back to the community or finds a way to add purpose to their business they always have the greater good in mind.

One of Get Go Retro’s favorite charities is The Fresh Air Fund. Since 1877, more than 1.7 million inner-city children, living in New York City’s toughest neighborhoods, have experienced the joys of Fresh Air experiences. The Fresh Air Fund is primarily supported by the generosity of thousands of contributors.

Summertime is Fresh Air time for thousands of New York City children growing up in disadvantaged communities. Through The Fund’s Friendly Town program, close to 5,000 children visit volunteer host families each summer in rural and suburban communities. Fresh Air children stay for two weeks or more in 300 Friendly Towns across 13 Northeastern states from Virginia to Maine and Canada.

Friendly Town host families are volunteers who live in the suburbs or small town communities. Host families range in size and background, but share the desire to open their hearts and homes to give city children an experience they will never forget. (more…)

Who’s Giving You Your Dating & Relationship Advice?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

By Leslie Stewart

If you’re a woman who’s looking to meet YOUR Mr. Right in 2010, ask yourself a very important question:  Who do I receive my dating & relationship advice from?

You might realize that you spend a lot or all of your time discussing your dreams, complaints, and dramas with your other single friends who also tend to worry, complain and see the single ‘landscape’ in the same way you do. This can be both comforting and confusing – and frustrating. I know because my clients point to this fact a lot.  We love our friends – and when we’re in a tribe together, facing the same issues and hopes together, there can be a lot of comfort and companionship.  And, sometimes , it can become a soup of  frequent negativity, subtle sabotage, numbing-out and truth-negating.

The ultimate truth of who to date, who to let go of, how to recover your sense of optimism and positive expectancy, how to uncover your dreams and desires and grow them, how to effortlessly attract in a new way, how to navigate the dating and relationship waters with ease, elegance and a lot more fun…..all of these become much more quickly revealed to you when you invest in and apply teachings, advice and guidance from someone who’s both been in your shoes, and is also walking their talk now. Why take relationship advice from someone who’s been chronically unhappy and dissatisfied (we all have our moments, but you know who I’m talking about) and/or never before experienced a healthy relationship?

Gratitude really is an ATTITUDE!

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

By Gayle LaSalle

Once more in my life, I found myself realizing how fulfilling the attitude of gratitude is.  As most of you, I could find many things to feel bad about and I could easily rationalize a way to focus on those things.  But, then something happens that brings about the most profound sense of gratitude.  For me, this was the birth of my first “Baby Grand”.  I have taken to using this term because she is definitely the grandest of babies and I just like the way it sounds.  Besides, she is so unique and wonderful, to me, that I just couldn’t use an ordinary term to describe her. She has now  – 2 ½ years later – been joined by her little sister and my gratitude has not just doubled but increased incredibly.

Now, I realize I am just a bit prejudice as their grandmother and have an overwhelming love for their mother (my daughter). That, however, doesn’t lessen the sense of gratitude that exists along with all the other great emotions, at becoming a grandparent. The gratitude is different from the intense love.  It is realizing that our girls iare healthy; gratitude for the fact that my daughter (their mom) is well; gratitude for the fact that they have parents that love them unconditionally and will always do what’s best; gratitude for the fact that these wonderful beings have come into my life and that I live close enough to watch them grow and change.
