We Need to Get Our Voices Out Whether Dripping with Honey or Stinging with Hot Sauce

January 24th, 2010

By Elizabeth Cassidy and Annie Hart

Annie: We all have a voice.  But how we use it is up to us.  Are you speaking out loud and proud in your world? Are you saying what you need to say in just the right way?  Sometimes we need to be strong and straight like a shot of espresso.  Other times we need to be simple and sweet like a bit of honey.  My blogging buddy elizabeth Cassidy and I are going to share about speaking out.

elizabeth: Some voices come with the sugary, succulent juice of kindness slipping off the chin. And some voices look at the seeds of a fried jalapeño pepper as their daily multiple vitamin.

We all have a voice that the world needs to hear. Some of us bellow from the rooftops while others talk right into their chests allowing only their heart to hear. Those are the people who drive me to distraction and back. To deny one his/her voice takes away from what the rest of us have been hammering home about.

A wonderful Italian proverb makes its case against silence: Silence was never written down. I say don’t leave this planet without the benefit of your voice being heard. If you are willing to see how your voice sounds, your words could change the world.  Can you imagine a world without Sylvia Plath, Tennessee Williams, Lennon/McCartney or even me?  I always wanted to be in the same sentence as with John Lennon. See what having a voice does? It gives you permission.

Annie: We need to be proud and speak without fear.  Our biggest fear is of not being liked or accepted.  Isn’t that silly because not everyone can like us.  When we stay small and don’t dare to rock the boat with our words we live in a wizened little world.  Like a crazen (a dried cranberry raisen), we feel a little more trapped every day.

We gotta take risks to speak what isn’t spoken. I like to call it speaking raw and real.  Do you want people to get the fake you or the real deal?  It’s up to you. Read more »

Up In The Air - Packing and Planning Make Perfect

Essential Nutrition For You

In my 9 years of practice in San Francisco, many of my clients traveled for business. Looking at room service menus and creating a list of snacks to travel with made a huge difference in allowing them to stay on track while traveling. I often suggest that when clients travel for pleasure, they focus on maintaining the weight they have lost while away and then get back on track once at home again.

If your job requires that you are “UP IN THE AIR”, then becoming a SAVVY TRAVELER will help you optimize your health and wellness. You definitely do not want to add inches to your waistline as you are accruing miles towards a free trip to the beach!

It all starts the night before your trip. You will want to pack early so that you can get as close to a normal night’s sleep as possible. When we are tired, we need energy and energy comes from our food choices.

However, when we are over tired, we crave sugar and seek out caffeine. Getting a good night’s rest can help us make smart food choices. Read more »

January 21st, 2010
Waves of Gratitude founders Cheryl Nordyke and Kim Wierman believe that the expression of gratitude has the power to change the world. With that thought in mind, they are declaring 2010 the Year of Gratitude and launching their new blog “Inspired Thoughts” with 365 days of uninterrupted blogging about the subject they hold so dear.

“The purpose is to show our followers that we are just like them. We have everyday joys, challenges, struggles, and triumphs and through it all we strive to find the gratitude and inspiration in these experiences, that’s what keeps us strong” says Cheryl. Kim adds “What you’ll see is the real deal as we relate our day’s experiences and reflect upon and find the inspiration and gratitude that will make us better the next day.  We invite you to travel with us and look forward to your comments and insights and hope that together we can all grow from this experience.  Let the journey into 2010 begin!” Read more »

Julie Steelman, Authentic Sales Coach

January 20th, 2010

Julie Steelman’s credits read like a Who’s Who of big-name corporate giants with Apple, Microsoft, Honda, Nissan and Sony Pictures in her rolodex. She continues to shatter her record of $75 million in sales for multimillion dollar corporations and startups. She is directly responsible for keeping businesses open and helping business owners, executives and entrepreneurs to fulfill their professional and personal destinies.

Clients call the Authentic Sales Coach for a reason. Julie leveraged one meeting with the world’s most recognized brand to broker a $1 million deal, and then turned it into another $4 million in sales. In six months, the Authentic Sales Coach unlocked a two-year stalemate between a major movie studio and a popular online search engine to close a two-year, $3.5 million deal.

Julie did not always operate with a sense of purpose. A twenty-five year career in media sales gave the coach a fly-on-the- wall view of her clients’ offices. She watched their reactions to changing business climates—taking note of what business practices worked. Julie noticed something else about these executives. “I saw unhappiness on their faces, and it mirrored mine,” she reveals.

Julie was determined to raise her joy quotient. She earned a Masters Degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. Through her studies, she discovered a new paradigm for achieving peak performance that combined the best practices of corporate America and lessons from her coursework. She returned to the business arena to teach these principals to her employers with a renewed sense of purpose. Having sold her way out of corporate America and landed in paradise at the age of 47, she created The SOUL Principle of Selling. Read more »
